Week beginning 19th February

This was a 3 day week due to our half term holiday.

Phee and Ben received special awards after PY sports day for displaying some of our PYP Learner Attributes. Phee showed great sportmanship and Ben showed a supportive attitude towards others.

In our PY assembly, children made thank you notes for the Thai staff who support us at school including, housekeepers, guards and our handyman.

We wrote recounts of a day during the half term break using time connectives, paragraphs and past tense.

Our spellings this week are quite difficult. Do look at the PowerPoint. Parents may need to help their child to understand what the words mean and talk with them about to use the words in a sentence.

Next week we will be learning

  • About ably and ibly words
  • Modal verbs such as might, will, may, should, could, would, ought, must, shall and can.
  • Preparing to talk about their energy factsheet to others.
  • Distinguishing clearly between our needs and our wants
  • Further unpicking of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Child.

Maths -
  • Complete, read and interpret information in tables and timetables.
  • Solve comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in all types of graph including a line graph.

In Maths this week, Y5 started to examine timetables and what data do we gather from reading
different types of timetables. As this was a short week we decided to interpret classroom timetables.
and how they help us organise ourselves. Once learners understand how to read the timetables
they were able to pair up and write questions about their own timetable.

Some examples of the questions they wrote were

How many minutes does Y6 have for swimming and PE?
What time does Y3 have Maths on Wednesday?
How many hours and minutes are you at school in a week?
How long is lunch everyday?

These types of questions allow Y5 learners to engage and analyse information from the timetable
with a closer connection than me just asking questions to everyone.
