Pin, Kavier and Tien focused on the Islamic (Muslim) faith

Hinduism was the focus for Liew and Oum

In our PY assembly this week children were asked to suggest ways in which we might improve our lunchtime systems. Our ideas have been passed on to the Student Council.

Maths
Y5 learners started to think, discuss and make connections to fractions, decimals and percentages. These concepts are difficult for some learners but we started off in a fun way by playing a fraction and decimal game to encourage vocabulary and see connections between fractions and decimals. We also used prompting questions such as "What does a 1/2 look like as a decimal or a percentage?" to get the learners inquiring into these concepts.

We will continue fraction, decimals and percentages for the next two weeks in class.  Homework will go home on Monday and will be due back on Thursday for next week.

Pin, Oum, Eliza and Daewa discussing fractions and equivalent parts.

Kavier, Ben, Eric and Rainer applying thier knowledge of equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.

Kevin, Jun He and Phee figured out that if you add 75%+5%=80% and the inverse operation of that.

Do have a restful holiday whether you are staying in Udon or travelling further afield. Please encourage your child to read as often as possible.

Maths and Business

Year 5 were Entrepreneurs this week by setting up and selling their items from their own shop. Each learner developed, designed and sold their own supplies to enhance their addition and subtraction skills in a real-life situation.
Additional skills learnt through this process were communication skills, self-management skills, thinking skills and social skills. Y5 did a great job! Thank you to all the parents, teachers and other learners who took part in our entrepreneurial role-play.

Set up included communication and thinking skills to make sure everyone was in a spot they liked and their stall had everything they wanted.

K1 came by to make some purchases.

Y3 showed a keen interest in electronics.

Eliza helping Tien's mum pick out the right iphone case.

Dr. Lindsay came prepared with his own HOS money and was ready to spend his cash at every shop. Daewa was able to sell him some yummy french fries for his morning snack.

#
Phee showing his quick calculations skills with Kevin's mum for her headphone purchase.

Jun He is developing his communication and thinking skills by being a proper salesman with Y1.

Oum helping K2 make some dessert choices that fit their budget.

Amanda working with Chris by giving back correct change on his shirt purchase.

Tien displaying his knowledge of flowers and perfume to Natasha while she evaluates her choices.

When we return from break we will be heading into fractions such as mixed fractions, improper fractions, equivalent fractions and how fractions and decimals align.

On Thursday we visited Muang Udon Muslim Mosque.

The Imam to shared lots of information and played the Muslim call to prayer for us on his phone. Muslims pray five times a day.

We were shown how Muslim people pray.

The Iman's wife demonstrated what to do and some children chose to try and copy.

The Iman showed us a copy if the Q'uran. This is the Muslim Holy text.

We presented the Imam with a small donation.

The children were all given some cake and milk before we took a final photograph. The field trip was an opportunity to visit a mosque. The children were able to identify. similarities and differences between their own faith (if any) and the Muslim faith. For many, it was their first ever visit to a mosque.

Our assembly this week was all about keeping safe. Phee helped with the assembly. We learned a fun song that will help to keep us safe.

Here is a very special song with an important message about being safe. Do encourage your child to watch. The lyrics describe an important message which we need to share with all children.

Maths
Maths this week has been very busy. We worked on developing our portfolios which are composed of slides that show what each learner has been working on in all subject areas since the start of school. Mr Rick was around for special visits this week.

We have also been working on videos that demonstrates each learners' understanding of money or being an entrepreneur which was part of their homework last week.
Lastly, we spent time assessing each learner on the "I can statement" on addition and subtraction.

Next week, we will be completing our entrepreneur project by setting up our stalls that will display their products they are selling in the Community Hub. We will be inviting classes and parents to attend once we are set up so stayed turn for this exciting event and be prepared to spend some money.
