This week we put up our class Christmas Tree and continued rehearsing for the Christmas Show. We hope to see you all there next Thursday.
Gentle reminder...costumes for the Y5 part of the Christmas Show is anything with a Christmas theme!
We have also been finding about the Nativity, which tells
about the birth of Jesus. This story is very important to followers of the
Christian faith.
The children have been busy making Christmas or New Year cards. This is the Christmas display outside the Year Five classroom.
Ben and Kavier helped in the King's Birthday assembly.
A special invitation to parents
On Wednesday 11th December, Year Five parents are invited to our classroom to see our Showcase about our liearning about explorers. It will be period 7 (14.00) at the end of the day. Do join us if you can. If you cannot your child should be able to share their slide presentation with you at home.
In Maths this week, we focused on the following standards:
- Continue to read, write and convert time between analogue and digital 12 and 24-hour clocks.
- Solve problems involving converting between units of time.
We did this by completing daily questions or prompts in large groups to help develop their problem-solving skills and modelled strategies to use to advance their thinking e.g how many minutes in 24 hours? How many hours do you sleep in a day? Convert from hours to minutes.
60 mins x 24 hours= 1440 mins. in a day
Y5 also worked in levelled maths books to further their multiplication/division skills by converting units of time at their ability. As learners work at different speeds and have a variety of multiplication and division skills this means we had 3 levels this week going at any given time.

Next week we will be completing any unfinished projects to end the term. Most learners have pending unfinished work or projects and time will be given to complete these. Assessments will be given throughout the week on time including vocabulary and converting time based on individual abilities. This will conclude our unit study of Measurement.
Homework will be a conversion worksheet given out on Monday and due back on Thursday.
