Our online learning is continuing. In our next whole school news letter Year 5 will share their thoughts on this issue.

Your child should be arranging a student led conference with you. After it is completed please complete and return the reflection. Your child should be able to show you where it is in Google Classroom.

Week of April 26 - May 1

Maths this week went well for our Y5 learners! We have been actively engaged in analysing whole numbers. They have been doing this by the following

  • Figuring out if the numbers are prime or composite
  • Finding the factors and multiples of a given number
  • Digger deeper into the their understanding by finding the highest common factors (HCF) and the lowest common multiple (LCM) of a set of numbers

Y5 should be proud of what they have been able to demonstrate and defend their number knowledge this week. We also played a prime and composite Kahoot game during our open Maths session on Thursday. Great way to keep us learning and having fun together while we are distance learning.

Next week's learning will focus on:
  • Multiply numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers.
  • Use estimation/inverse to check answers to calculations; determine, in the context of a problem, an appropriate degree of accuracy.

Week Beginning 20th April 2020

Our first week of term 3 is now complete. I hope you are finding our daily communications helpful. Our aim is to put as much as possible in one place to make information easily accessible to all. Next week, the children will be organising student lead conferences when they will share their learning with you.

For enjoyment, with an educational value too, here is a link to the first episode of a ten part BBC series produced for children called 'The King's Dragon.' Happy watching Year 5... I know you have been waiting for this.

Here are some snapshots of our online learning. You may notice that groups sometimes welcome special visitors

A special request!
Each week I should like to add some photograph of children working at home or doing something interesting to fill their time at home. Please send them to Mr John or Ms Sanuk'

New Week's learning from Ms Emmi

For Maths, this is a continuation of this week learning
  • I can identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, and common factors of two numbers.
  • I can know and use the vocabulary of prime numbers, prime factors and composite (non-prime) numbers.
  • I can establish whether a number up to 100 is prime and recall prime numbers up to 19.

This week in Maths, Y5 this week has been working on finding factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. We have been able to do this by watching videos made by me and a youtube link as a good lesson prep. During our lesson time online we spend time explaining the vocabulary to better understand what it means to find factors of numbers, what makes a number prime or composite.
Learners have the opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of these concepts by practising them during our time together in small online groups. Proud of the progress that the learners are making learning the vocabulary and investigating new concepts of whole numbers.

Week Beginning 30th March 2020

Dear Children and Parents,

We have now reached the end of term 2. It has certainly been a very challenging time but your children are adapting well to online learning.Whilst we would prefer to be at school safety has to be our prime concern until we are certain of a safe return to school.

Online learning is now suspended for two weeks. Children may wish to take some time to complete any activities that they might have missed. If there are any questions the children can message me and I will get back to them when I can.

Below are some suggestions for virtual tours to places around the world which I think children may find interesting. I have also added a list of non-computer based activities that can be carried out if children are looking for something to do.

regards Mr John.

Some children sent us pictures of their at home learning.
