1st week of term 2

Happy New Year 2020

Active speaking and listening

We worked on being active speakers and listeners. We shared our holiday experiences but with a twist. Children had to talk with a partner. When they reported back to the class, they had to describe what their partner had done during the school break..

Hello Alisha

We are delighted to welcome a new student to our class. This is Alisha who previously lived in the UK. The class have done a great job in helping her feel welcome at UDIS.

We have some new Top Trump Card sets from the UK. Most of the topics relate to our learning in Y5. The cards are full of data which the children need to understand and compare. They need to think and make comparisons independently, using their brain, rather than relying on technology.

Fastest Trains (Science/Geography)
Volanoes (Science/Geography)
David Walliams (English UKs most popular childrens' author)
Roals Dahl (English major selling international author)
Sensational Science (Science/Technology)
Dinosaurs (History/Science)
Horrible Histories (History)
Cats (Science)
Dogs (Science)
and just for fun...
Frozen 2

Please help your child to learn this song for our assembly next Thursday.

Next week, our PY assembly will be about teamwork. Y5 will be performing to this song. Please remind children to listen to this video, learn the lyrics and think about the actions/dance moves they wish to use. This is the Y5 homework this week alongside Ms. Emmi's maths.

A summary of our learning next week

  • We shall be thinking about teamwork and how we can support each other when we share ideas and learn together.
  • We will be learning about play scripts and how they are set out. We will need to know what these terms mean.

  • Children will make some electrical circuits and carry out an experiment to show how some forms of energy can cause pollution which may harm the environment

Maths skills for next week

  • Know angles are measured in degrees: estimate and compare acute, obtuse and reflex angles.
  • Draw given angles, and measure them in degrees (°).
  • Identify: angles at a point and one whole turn (total 360°), angles at a point on a straight line and half a turn (total 180°), other multiples of 90°
Maths homework will be an activity sheet given on Monday and due back on Thursday.

This week in Maths, learners tuned in to learn about angles. They focused on what an angle is, how you measure an angle and the vocabulary that goes with measuring angles.
